A worship song by Mark Altrogge. The lyrics speak of the initiative of God in sending His Son Jesus Christ, to seek and to save us sinful humans. In Luke 19, we read of the account of Jesus and Zacchaeus, the tax collector which exemplifies this. Jesus, knowing that Zacchaeus was a sinner, wanted to stay at his house. But while the others were wondering why Jesus would stay with a sinner, Zacchaeus confesses his sin, and Jesus reveals why He had come into this world - To seek and save the lost (Luke 19:9-10); sinners like you and me.
Without God taking the initiative to come in the form of the man Jesus, to serve and give His life as a ransom for many (Mark 10:45), we would forever remain in our sins, needing daily sacrifices to atone for them, and not having direct access to the Father. But Jesus our great High Priest sacrificed Himself for our sins, once for all(Hebrews 7:26-28), so that the unrighteous may become righteous by His blood. We are forever grateful for what He has done, that He came to seek and save us, the lost.
