Come Holy Spirit

A worship song by Malcolm Fletcher. In the ascension account of Jesus in Acts 1:3-11, we see Him giving some last instructions to His disciples before ascending to heaven. He had previously commanded them to wait for the gift His Father had promised, the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:4-5). And now, He tells His disciples that when the Spirit comes upon them, they will be His witnesses throughout all the earth (Acts 1:8).

Jesus will come again to restore His kingdom, at a time set by the Father (Acts 1:7), and He will come just as the disciples saw Him ascending to the heavens (Acts 1:11). But until then, the Holy Spirit is given to indwell us, to prepare for that day when He shall come again. The main purpose of the Holy Spirit being given is for us to be His witnesses in the world. So let us go forth in power and remember that while the Spirit guides us in all truth to glorify Jesus (John 16:13-15), that He also convicts the world of guilt, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8) through the Gospel we preach. Come Holy Spirit!
