Worlds Apart

Worlds ApartA beautiful song by Jars Of Clay, one of the first Christian bands I started listening to years back. Talks about the struggle between what we as Christians are called to do, and how we actually live our lives contrary to that. In Mark 8:34, Jesus tells the crowd as well as his disciples, 'If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.' Three things we are to do as Christ commanded. First, to deny our own sinful nature. Second, to be willing and prepared to suffer for Christ through persecutions we may face on His behalf. Third, to follow Him in obedience to all his commands and teachings.

What Christ has called us to do is not easy, and often times we fail miserably in keeping to His command. As Paul writes in Romans 7:14, "I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do." The struggle is real in every Christian's life. But thank God that He has provided a way out! Christ's perfect sacrifice on the cross of us has brought us salvation from the penalty of sin, which is eternal death (Romans 8:1-2). And He has sent His Holy Spirit to enable us to live lives free from the power of sin (John 14:26). God's standards and ours may be worlds apart, but His sacrifice for us has bridged that gap through the power of his Holy Spirit. Thank you Jesus!
